HGS to Address Humanitarian Challenges in Africa and South Asia

15 December 2024

Hagman Global Strategies (HGS) is set to partner with UN agencies to tackle escalating hunger crises in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. These regions are grappling with rising undernourishment, child mortality, and malnutrition, driven by inadequate diets, economic pressures, and the increasing impact of natural disasters.

The initiative builds on a prior collaboration in 2019, when HGS worked with UN bodies to combat famine in East Africa. That effort addressed a hunger crisis affecting over 20 million people, exacerbated by climate-induced droughts, armed conflicts, and the emerging COVID-19 pandemic. Leveraging its international network, HGS secured critical food supplies, funding, and logistical support during one of the region’s worst food shortages in decades.

In that earlier campaign, HGS tapped surplus food stocks from multiple countries. In the United States, team members lobbied lawmakers in Washington to release grain reserves. In Canada, HGS coordinated a lentil shipment from Ottawa, while in India, it navigated export restrictions in New Delhi to secure rice supplies. These efforts delivered substantial food volumes to UN relief operations.

Beyond food, HGS also brokered a significant debt-relief package for countries reeling from famine.
